Looking for a photographer for a benefit

Marian Hetherly

More disco

Everybody seems to love the disco events - in fact, you might say we all have "Disco Fever" (hahahaha...oh, I'll stop now) - so I thought you might want to know about this event...we were invited to send someone, so if you want to go, please let me know.

East Aurora's Largest Disco

7 PM - 11 PM
Boys and Girls Club of East Aurora (adults only)

Ultimate Bridal Show - April 5 - Looking for multiple volunteers for multimedia project

Buffalo.com photo by Erica Morano.

I'm unable to find a link for it at this precise moment, but I am looking for 3-4 interns to help me cover the Ultimate Wedding Show on Sunday, April 5 from roughly noon to 5 PM at Macy's at the Walden-Galleria Mall. It's the finale of the big bridal photo contest sponsored by BuffaloBrides.com.

What I would ideally like to do is to have a team that can shoot video, do on-camera interviews, write blogs/post to Twitter, and take photos. We would upload our content directly from the site, giving it a "live" feel.

Everyone will have a chance to do everything - that is, the writer will have a chance to do interviews or run the camera or take pictures, the photographer can do some quick writing, the cameraperson may also be sending Twitter messages, etc. This would be real fast-paced and, I think, a lot of fun.

This is a model that we would like to pursue for multiple events this summer (including a lot of fun stuff), so this would be a test run to see, logistically, how this works, what doesn't work, and what we may need to tweak.

If you are interested, please let me know. I will be there myself, and I'm going to be doing all of the same stuff that you are. I'm looking forward to this.

Hey, YourHub gang...

Buffalo.com photo by Rachelle Roberts.

...watch your cutting and pasting. If you write your articles in Word and then paste them into YourHub (which is not a bad idea by any means), take a moment to double check your story - particularly the very first sentence.

There is a good chance you'll see something that looks like this:

Normal0falsefalsefalseEN-USX-NONEX-NONEMicrosoftInternetExplorer4

Some sort of code is showing up as a result of the transfer process. It's not harmful or anything, but it looks kind of bad - particularly when your story is showing up in the featured section in a particular hub. I don't know about you - if I see an interesting headline but the lede is "Normal0falsefalsefalseEN-USX-NONEX-NONEMicrosoftInternetExplorer4," I usually don't click over to the story.

Anyhow...just something to keep your eye on. Thanks!

Because such things interest me

...if you get a chance, check out the new home page for Skittles - yes, the little fruit-flavored candy. They've converted their homepage into a Twitter feed, so anytime someone on Twitter uses the term "Skittles," it appears right there at the Skittles Web site. As you can see, there are some pretty strong reactions to this experiment.

Just thought you might be interested! Lord knows these things fascinate me.

A couple notes of interest

Buffalo.com photo by Marc Wierzbowski.

This info was passed along to me this weekend, so I thought I would share...
  • Betty Wagner found some info on a new Buffalo Digital Video group that is in the process of being formed...any of you who are interested in video projects or collaborating with some of your peers in the area may find this interesting.

Writers, this includes you - if you are interested in writing screenplays or writing for television, etc., it would behoove you to make friends with some people who are savvy with the camera. There is nothing more valuable in terms of experience than writing for the genre that you would like to pursue, and this could be a terrific networking opportunity.

  • The Puppy Love community gallery is officially closed (well, you could technically still post photos there, but you can't win any of the prizes anymore), but if you still would like to share your pet photos - specifically those of the feline variety - check out this application that Darleen Stry found for the 2009 Hilton (NY) Apple Fest cat and kitten photo competiton. If you win, I would like 5 pounds of Red Delicious as a finder's fee, please.
