Buffalo.com Events List 3/1

Hi everyone,

Great work this weekend! We have excellent photos from the Powder Keg Festival, Canisius Chilly Challenge and the Cheer for a Cure event up on the site. Thank you to everyone who went out! The big event this week is the 2010 Buffalo Home & Garden Show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There are different events taking place each day so make sure to read all the details. The Shamrock Run on Saturday will also be a great event for photos.

Deanna is officially out of the office and on maternity leave so Ben and I have taken over. Everything is going wonderful so far and we look forward to working with you for the next few months.

Events List 3/1

Tuesday

Imani Winds Concert -Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall- 7:30 pm
Concert with the Imani Winds, a Grammy-nominated, multicultural ensemble of flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and French horn, presented by the Music Department. This event is free and open to the public.

Class A-2 Sectional Basketball: 2-East vs. 3-Lafayette, 7:00pm; 1-Maryvale vs. 4-Cheektowaga, 8:30pm.

The frenetic styles of East and Lafayette High Schools will be pitted against one another at 7 – expect a high scoring game. East is in the midst of a crazy year – Head Coach Starling Bryant suspended all of his starters and several bench players because they did not meet his academic standards during the season. After missing some regular season games, all have been re-admitted to the team and will play at Buff State this week/weekend. Lafayette is the oldest public high school in Buffalo, and evidenced by its tiny gym. Ask how playing on the spacious Buffalo State hardwood differed for better or worse. These two storylines alone would make for a compelling story.

The Maryvale High School Flyers, led by Coach Mark Kensy, take on upset-minded Cheektowaga in the second game on Tuesday night at Buffalo State College (8:30pm). Maryvale is a regular sectional finalist, while Cheektowaga plays its best basketball late in the season. Keep an eye on Flyers Bryce Shepard and Blair Estarfaa.

Dan R. is already taking photos for Maryvale/Cheek, but if there is an interested writer, Maryvale’s head coach is a fiery dude – worth an interview.

Class AA Sectional Basketball: 3-North Tonawanda vs. 2-Jamestown, 6pm-Buffalo State
The best of the in-week games – Football State Champion North Tonawanda has several players that perform in both sports – it’s a pleasure to watch gritty Aaron Davis play basketball. Jamestown, which suspended many of its players earlier in the year as well, is the slight favorite.
