The Amberg Quartet: World Premiere of Two Works by Persis Pashhall Vehar. The month of March held significant meaning for Charles Burchfield because the regenerative season of spring arrives. He once stated, “I would like to be the embodiment of March—both in life and art.” Spring’s newness is reflected in the world premiere of two works by the internationally known, Buffalo-based composer Persis Parshall Vehar. 7 PM, Burchfield Penney Art Museum, Buffalo State College, Buffalo.
Bob Dylan Imitators Contest. Presented by Michael Meldrum and The Buffalo Song Project, this year’s event boasts a panel of eight illustrious judges and many more performers all attempting to do justice to the great musician. 7 PM, Nietzsche’s, 248 Allen St., Buffalo.

The IU Soul Revue. The IU Soul Revue, part of the Indiana University African American Arts Institute, delivers the sounds of timeless R&B, soul, funk and contemporary urban black popular music. Performances feature original compositions, along with arrangements by Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, Patti LaBelle, Kelly Price, D'Angelo and Mary J. Volunteerapalooza! United Way of Buffalo & Erie County is offering hundreds of volunteer opportunities and information at the VolunteerPalooza!, formerly known as the WNED Volunteer Fair. New York State Jr. Miss Scholarship Competition. This annual statewide program will decide the 2009 New York State Junior Miss. Storrs All High Photo Show. The showcase of student photography traditionally attracts thirty or more schools from western and central New York and averages 300 works on display. 2 PM, Kenan Center, 433 Locust St., Lockport.
Hunt Real Estate Art of Jazz Series: Ted Nash and Odeon. A featured member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, saxophonist Ted Nash formed his group Odeon, which includes elements of "tango, klezmer, second-line rhythms, impressionism, Ellington voicings, marches, the Near East, the Middle East, the Far East and, representing the West, country music and jazz.” (The Village Voice). 3 PM, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, 1285 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo.
