Buffalo.com Events List 6/14

Good Morning,

There’s a lot of great content up on the site- thanks for going out! Ben and I have been having a lot of fun going to events and our summer event list continues to grow.

Thursday:

Thursday at the Square - 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Ingrid Michaelson is a New York based indie-pop singer-songwriter who plays guitar, piano and ukulele. In 2006, she threw caution to the wind and loaded her album “Girls and Boys” onto her Myspace page. And thankfully for fans everywhere, an artist management company in California took notice. You might recognize her music from the hit TV shows Grey’s Anatomy and One Tree Hill. The single “The Way I Am” reached #2 on Billboard Adult Top 40 Chart. Michaelson will perform on the stage of Bonnaroo shortly before she makes her way to the Queen City on June 17th for Thursday at the Square. Special guest for the evening will be A.A. Bondy.

Rockin' at the Knox - Albright-Knox Art Gallery - 5:00 PM

This year there is an eclectic lineup headed by Rufus Wainwright and The National. They will be joined by Atlas Sound and Martha Wainwright. Rockin’ at the Knox is the Albright-Knox Art Gallery’s outdoor fundraising celebration and one of the city’s most anticipated events.

15th Annual St. Gregory The Great “Great Race” 5K - 200 St. Gregory Court – 6:00 p.m.

Party Starts at 6:00 p.m, Race Gun at 7:00 p.m.
Post-Race Party Entertainment: Nik and the Nice Guys!
We have plenty of delicious food for a nominal price and plenty to do for children of all ages including a rock-climbing wall, bounce tents and putting green. We have over 1000 runners and 3000 people attending the party.

Saturday

Roaming Buffaloes Elmwood Village Pub Crawl- Stretching over 2 miles from Allen St - Forest Ave - 9:00 p.m. - 4:00 a.m.
So far, confirmed restaurants and bars waiving covers and participating in drink specials are: Coles, Cozumel, Mister Goodbar, JP Bullfeathers, JJ's Sports Bar (at Casa di Pizza), Elmwood Lounge, Thirsty Buffalo, Nektar and Wine Thief.


Saturday & Sunday

Juneteenth Festival- Martin Luther King Jr. Park- 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

*Parade begins at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday from the corners of Genesee & Wende Streets and proceeds down Genesee into MLK Jr.Park.

Festivities include: Entertainment stage, Arts and Culture stage, Vendor’s Market, Food Court, Health Pavilion, Family Portrait Booth, Step Team exhibition, Drill Team exhibition, Book Sharing, Historical Exhibits, Reenacting historical events in history, Children’s Activities, Youth Activities, Underground Railroad Tours and more! Come and enjoy a fun-filled weekend for the entire family! The Juneteenth Festival of Buffalo is the third largest in the country. One of the most popular funk groups of the '70s, WAR was also one of the most eclectic, freely melding soul, Latin, jazz, blues, reggae, and rock influences into an effortlessly funky whole.


Wednesday

"D 'n A" – Hennepin Park Gazebo, 4th & Center Street -7:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m.

The Lewiston Council on the Arts will present a special free concert.
"D 'n A", also known as Doug Heydon and Amey Herman will present Celtic folk music from the old world to the new.


Warpaint – The Mohawk Place – 8:00 p.m.

Warpaint is an all-girl quartet from Los Angeles. They weave intricate guitar lines, hypnotic vocals, and driving post-punk rhythms into gorgeous, sprawling songs that skirt the line between the soundscapes of psychedelia and intimacy.

Chinese auction and raffles too. All proceeds support environmental education programs at Reinstein Woods.

Jog For The Jake 5K - Delaware Park – 9:30 a.m.

A 5K road race in memory of Lawrence D. Jacobs, M.D. and in honor of all fathers. Proceeds benefit the JNI, neurological center of excellence in Buffalo, NY, with advanced research and patient programs. The event is a Buffalo Father’s Day tradition and provides fun activities for the whole family.In addition to the 5k run around Delaware Park’s ring road, the event features several activities for children including: a kids’ dash (with T-shirts and chocolate medals), bounce houses, a children’s art activity, a climbing wall, music and an incredible post race lunch. It is a great way to celebrate family and support the fight against neurological disease.

Marcus Miller – Seneca Niagara Casino- Bear's Den Showroom – 7:00 p.m.

Legendary jazz musician, producer, and bass player Marcus Miller comes to the Bear’s Den at Seneca Niagara Casino for an afternoon of jazz. A winner of multiple Grammy Awards, Miller will take the stage to revisit “Tutu,” the 1986 groundbreaking album he composed for Miles Davis. During Miller’s long and accomplished career, he spent extensive time touring with and producing and composing music for Davis, Luther Vandross, and David Sanborn. As a bassist, he has appeared on more than 400 records for artists such as Mariah Carey, Elton John, Aretha Franklin, and Frank Sinatra.

Featured guest artist, jazz trumpeter Christian Scott, will perform with Miller on stage.
